1. Directions for people familiar with Ottsville
If you are driving north on 611, take a soft right shortly after the traffic light at the 113 intersection (there is a gas station on the left also) and you will be turning on to Durham Road. Drive 1.7 miles; you will pass the Brig O’ Doon Coffee House, the Ottsville Inn and the Ottsville Fire Station, all on the left, and then turn right on to Geigle Hill Road.
After you turn right on to Geigle Hill, you will go .9 miles, and then, after descending down a steep, curving hill, you will take a soft left on to a one lane bridge (the road is now Clay Ridge)**. After you cross the one lane bridge, go another 1.1 miles and go over a second one lane bridge. Cross the bridge and drive another 2.1 miles at which point you will hit Beaver Run (to sum up, you will have driven 4.1 miles since turning on to Geigel Hill).
**NOTE: if you have a jeep or SUV or your car is at least 10” off the ground, you can save ten minutes and turn left immediately after the first one lane bridge, onto a dirt road called Bunker Hill Road (Bunker Hill is an immediate left after crossing the first one lane bridge). Drive through two creek crossings, up a steep hill for about a half mile, and turn right on to Hayden Lane. We’ll have a small sign with a balloon on it at the corner. If the road turns to pavement, you have missed us and need to turn around. If you are leaving Paula Chamlee and Michael Smith’s studio, go to the end of their driveway, and turn left instead of going back toward Clayridge/Geigel. Go over the creek crossing, and up the hill. As soon as you see daylight, turn right on to Hayden Lane (the sign is missing, but it is the only lane off of Bunker Hill Road). We are 30 seconds from their studio.
If you choose not to take the two creek crossings, then you will drive for 4.1 miles on Geigle Hill until you hit a stop sign. Turn left (you have to turn left or right) on to Beaver Run
Drive 1.5 miles until you hit a stop sign. Turn left on to Bunker Hill Road.
The road sign is hard to see, and often missing altogether. If you hit a second stop sign, you’ve missed the turn. Once on Bunker Hill, go about .7 miles, and turn left on to Hayden Lane, the only lane off the road. Don’t worry if you miss it because, if you do, you will run into a creek or two and have to turn around and go back anyway. Also don’t worry when the road turns into dirt about half way to Hayden Lane, because it is meant to.
Ours is the first house on the right.
2.Directions from Buckingham: If you start at the intersection of 202 and 413, you will take 413 for 8.5 miles and get dumped onto 611. Once you are on 611, go north 2.5 miles and take a right on to Tohikon Valley Road (you will pass a gas station on your left, and go through a light where the road crosses Route 113). Take Tohikon Valley Road until it ends (this will barely register on your odometer). Turn left onto Durham Road. Drive up the road until you see the Brig O’ Doon, the Ottsville Inn and the Fire Station and follow the above directions from there.
3.From Doylestown: Drive up Route 611 until you reach Plumsteadville. Set your odometer to zero right at the McDonalds/Giant/Rite Aid shopping area, and continue up 611 for 5.8 miles and take a right on to Tohikon Valley Road (you will pass a gas station on your left, and go through a light where the road crosses Route 113). Take Tohikon Valley Road until it ends (this will barely register on your odometer). Turn left onto Durham Road. Drive up the road until you see the Brig O’ Doon, the Ottsville Inn and the Fire Station and follow the above directions from there.
4.From Milford NJ: The bridge is out. Go over the Frenchtown bridge, turn right on to River Road/32. Pass the Mildord Bridge (under construction, and drive .1 miles. Turn left at the Homestead General Store sign on to Bridgeton Hill Road. You will drive a total of 5.1 miles, turning left at the first and only stop sign. It seems like a long way. Along the way, you will pass Ringing Rocks, a sign for Nockamixon Township, a sign for the Colonial Woods Campgound. When you pass the Nockamixon sign, Bridgeton Hill changes its name to Marienstein. At the stop sign, you want to turn left on to Beaver Run Road. If you bear right, you will get dumped on to Route 611, and you will be in Revere (package store, pizza parlor, etc), and will need to turn around. Assuming you did it right, however, and turned left on to Beaver Run, continue down Beaver Run 1.1 miles, at which point the road forks. Don’t be fooled. It feels like you ought to bear left, but that is actually the beginning of Byers Road. You want to bear right so that you stay on Beaver Run. Drive less than .1 miles – About 2 seconds – and take the little road that goes off to the right. That’s Bunker Hill Road. The road sign is missing. If you miss it, you will rapidly descend into the deep dark woods, and never be seen again. Go down Bunker Hill .8 Miles. Hayden Lane is on the left. That sign was just taken, as well, but you will see Elephants Eye signs. On your way to Hayden Lane, Bunker Hill’s paved road will turn to dirt, which it is meant to do. If you drive into water, which you are not meant to do, you will have missed Hayden Lane and need to turn around. If you do drive into the creek, just so you know, Michael Smith and Paula Chamlee’s studio, also on the tour, is the first driveway on your right after you cross the creek.
5.From Revere: If you are on Route 611, right smack in the middle of Revere, you will see how 611 veers sharply to the left right after all of the little shops. You don’t want that. You really just want to keep going straight. About 3 seconds later, you will see a second hair pin left hand turn, which is Marienstein going off to the left. Again, you really just want to keep going straight. If you do this, you will now be on Beaver Run Road. Go down 1.1 miles at which point the road forks. Don’t be fooled. It feels like you ought to bear left, but that is actually the beginning of Byers. You want to bear right so that you stay on Beaver Run. About 3 seconds later, a little road goes off to the right. That’s Bunker Hill Road. The sign is missing. If you miss it, you will rapidly descend into the deep dark woods, and never be seen again. Go down Bunker Hill .8 miles. Hayden Lane is on the left.
6. From Point Pleasant:If you really know Cafferty, go up Cafferty until it hits Geigel, then turn left on to Geigel. Take the second right on to Clay Ridge and follow from below.
Cafferty is tricky so if you don’t know it well do this instead:
Go up River Road about 4 ½ miles.
About a mile after passing the winery, turn left onto Headquarters Road (you will see a sign saying Delaware Valley Volunteer Fire Station on the corner). Pass the Erwinna Post Office (Headquarters veers sharply to the left here). Bear right (staying straight really) to go onto Geigle Hill Road (named after the Geigles who pronounced their name as “giggle” though now everyone pronounces it several other ways!)
Go 1.9 miles, then turn right to stay on Geigel.
Go .6 miles then turn left to stay on Geigel.
Go .9 miles and turn right on to Clay Ridge Road
Go .6 miles on Clay Ridge which dead ends on to Beaver Run
Turn right on Beaver Run and go less than a mile
At the first stop sign turn left onto Bunker Hill Road.
You are almost there.
Go down Bunker Hill about a .8 miles. The paved road becomes dirt. Turn left on to Hayden Lane. #7 is the first house on the right. Park on the grass on our side of the lane. You can also park anywhere at the end of the cul-de-sac.
